Lost and Found

Have you ever been in the position where you absolutely cannot find one object you are looking for? I misplace things all the time. I usually find them when I've long forgotten that they were lost. This scenario doesn't really include anything that was lost, but more so forgotten.

While I was working the other day, a guy came through my check out lane. He was quiet and bought about three bags worth of items. Most of these items were 'necessities': body wash, underwear, toothpaste, etc. He seemed marginally preoccupied and I could tell that he definitely had something on his mind. He paid for his items and picked up his bags. The next person came through my line and when I scanned their first item, I noticed that the man before them had forgotten a bag. At this point, I had two options. I could run after said man or I could set the bag aside and give it to guest service as 'left merchandise'. I then thought that I would be pretty angry at myself if I spent money on something and then left it sitting there. Then again, if I were to do that, maybe I didn't really need it. Therefore, I decided to run after said man. It took a couple of 'sirs' and a nice job, but I was able to return the merchandise to the person who almost lost it. Now he is probably somewhere out there feeling much more comfortable in his new boxers, instead of crunchy ones...not that I would know for sure.
